Ah, yes. Another example of misplaced priorities by one of our Milwaukee City Council members. Alderwoman Milele Coggs will take on the all-important issue of hair care. She will be speaking about the “politics and legal issues pertaining to natural hair.” I didn’t realize there were any politics associated with hair, so I will claim ignorance. The good news is that if all of the problems plaguing the inner city must have been recently solved for this to take priority. Frankly, if Alderwoman Coggs and the estimated 1,000 attendees were interested in effecting real change in their community, they would be much better off invoking the power of prayer in church on Sunday, rather than this “workshop.” The media release is pasted below, so I’ll let you be the judge.

Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs will be a presenter during the Milwaukee Natural Hair Care Expo on Sunday (June 24, 2012) at the Milwaukee Academy of Math and Science Academy, 110 W. Burleigh Street in Milwaukee.
Alderwoman Coggs, who will be speaking at the expo about the politics and legal issues pertaining to natural hair, said the expo is a national-caliber event that will likely draw more than 1,000 attendees. She said the expo will feature local and international speakers addressing health and beauty topics and natural hair care. The expo’s 45-minute workshop sessions will run from approximately 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The expo’s primary sponsor is Dr. Kanika Jamila Ward, author of The Kosmik Kare Detox Manual: A Journey to Self Healing and owner of a small boutique style day spa in the 6th Aldermanic District.
