Yes, I am going to toot my own horn again by saying that cutting the Board was the cornerstone of my campaign for Milwaukee County Supervisor back in the spring of 2012. The proposal had been put forth by State Representative Joe Sanfelippo (R), who was a County Supervisor at the time. Although there seemed to be widespread support, I received little more than yawns from the general constituency. In fact, I got zero support from the so-called conservatives, who talked up a big game about it. It turns out the conservatives did what they do best when there is a fight at hand; crawl under a rock and hide.
Oh, what a difference a year makes! We are now hearing about this “new” proposal at hand. Now that the conservatives have counted up their votes in the state legislature and see that they can win without bruising their knuckles, they are more than happy to take up the cause. In fact, one of my former opponents for the aforementioned race (Ultra-Liberal Dan Cody) is now taking a decidedly neutral stand toward the County Board, rather than his rabid, pro-Board stance of only one year ago.
So, what’s the hold up? Why don’t the republicans in the state legislature schedule the vote and get it done? Well, this is where reality becomes more unbelievable than fiction. According to my sources, it boils down to one word; egos. Let me explain. There are many republicans in the legislature who are jealous because newly elected Joe Sanfelippo is getting all of the attention. Afterall, they have had pet legislation pending for years, which have received nary a notice. Yes, they are POUTING!
So, what can be done about these slackers? Here’s an idea; contact your state representative now and tell them to move forward with Sanfelippo’s plan to reform the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors. The Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors has been shreading your money for long enough. Let’s take it back!
