Every three months I receive my water bill, with its sky high fees, that have nothing to do with water consumption, but which are really property taxes under another name. This month’s statement of quarterly pain contained a note from an organization called “Take Root Milwaukee,” which is associated with the City of Milwaukee. Take Root’s basic mission is to get people out of their privately financed mortgage and into a government financed mortgage or HUD approved housing.
In the flyer I received, they asked the following questions: “Are you worried about your mortgage?” “Concerns [Concerned] about owing more than your home is worth?” “Not sure if you qualify under any government refinance or modification programs?” I have some questions that Take Root didn’t ask:
· Did you know that your home’s “fair market value,” is a fluffed up number that is based on what the city assessor determines it to be? In other words, the higher the total, the higher your property taxes. You basically rent that total, and it is usually higher than what you would be able to sell that property for.
· Did you know that “Location, Location, Location,” is determined by how “aggressive,” that particular municipalities’ property tax policies are? Don’t believe me, how come the first question out of a realtor’s mouth is, “What is your property assessed at?”
· Did you know that your taxes, federal, state and local subsidized these “sub-prime mortgages” in the first place, and now the government is “double-dipping,” ( a kind estimate) into your pockets to sustain the mess they created?
When the liberal talks of predatory lenders, he is ignoring the fact that this mortgage crisis was fueled by predatory borrowers, who would have been turned down in the past, because of their demonstrated irresponsibility with money. So at the end of the day, in spite of the utopian’s intentions, irresponsible borrowers left a swath of foreclosures, ruined houses and abandoned houses in their wake.
Mayor Tom Barrett and his liberal buddies aren’t working second shift at a sweatshop to pay off the bad results of their bad policies, no they are doing what liberals always do; they are sticking the burden onto the taxpayer. Sir Winston Churchill had a good quote about Liberalism, “Always Liberal with other People’s Money,” he knew Liberalism firsthand. The average, responsible American is running out of money for the Liberal to steal. The consequences of bad actors ought to be borne by the bad actors, and not the productive citizen.
America was founded on the economic principles of the free enterprise system. An individual was free to operate his business under the law without government intervention and regulation. This economic system is being replaced by public (government)/private partnerships. This system is called fascism. That might rankle some conservative ears as well, but we stand by our assertions, they are a historical fact, and the results of “crony capitalism” speak for themselves.
