MILWAUKEE — The Milwaukee County Courthouse has been closed Monday July 8th and Tuesday July 9th due to a fire, and has caused a lot of anger and frustration among the community.
Nearly 100-thousand people walk through these doors every day, only to be met with a sign telling them the Courthouse is closed for the day.
“It’s a little of an inconvenience” says Zach Wick
Marriages and court cases will have to wait, and for many, like Cheryl Komassa who showed up for jury duty this morning, had no idea there was a fire over the weekend.
“I’m surprised I didn’t know anything about the fire over the weekend”
Many people are upset they received no notification about the Courthouse being closed.
“I wish I would have been informed earlier” says Zach Wick
County Executive Chris Abele says they are working as fast as they can to get things up and running again.
“If it’s entirely up to me, I would like to be able to open things as soon as possible and get back to normal as soon as possible, but I’m not gonna take any chances.”
Although the Criminal Justice Facility will be open Tuesday July 9th inmate visits have been canceled.
The District Attorney’s Office will also remain open Tuesday July 9th.
As a reminder, if you had court scheduled for July 8th or July 9th you are asked to return the same day next week.
